Cello Lesson Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what size cello I need?

Cellos come in several different sizes, so it's important to choose one that fits the student properly. A music store professional can help measure and recommend the correct size.

What age can children start learning the cello?

Many students begin lessons around age 10, when they are typically big enough to comfortably handle the instrument.

Do I need anything else to learn how to play the cello?

In addition to a cello and bow, students will need dark rosin, as well as, a music stand for practicing and reading music at home.

Is it better to learn cello on my own or with an orchestra?

It is usually best to begin with individual lessons for the first few months in order to build a strong foundation in technique and reading music. But after a couple of months, joining a community orchestra can help you excel in musical progression.
