Marimba Lesson Frequently Asked Questions
What is a marimba?
The marimba is a wooden keyboard instrument with resonators to amplify the sound of each note, creating a rich, warm tone. It is often used in both solo and ensemble settings.
What's the difference between a marimba and a xylophone?
The xylophone has a higher frequency so the pitch is higher and brighter. The marimba, on the other hand, produces more lower, resonate tones.
Do I need my own marimba to start lessons?
No, this is actually the only instrument in our studio that you don't need to own before beginning lessons. In fact, we provide opportunities for students to practice on our marimba outside of lesson times.
What age can you start learning how to play the marimba?
Most students are ready to begin learning between the ages of 7 to 10.
